If you think vinegar is strictly used for cooking, think again! Vinegar is surprisingly versatile. It adds flavors to your green salads while detoxifying the system. You can also use vinegar to deodorize your home, eliminate germs, and even de-clog the sink! In today’s post, we are listing down amazing uses of white vinegar in the home:
Unclog a Drain
If your sink or shower drain is not draining water efficiently, you can use white vinegar to melt grime and soap buildup that’s clogging the pipes. To use vinegar to unclog a drain, mix about ½ cup baking soda with 1 cup vinegar. Pour the fizzy mix directly on the drain and let sit for 5 minutes. Follow up with boiling water then let sit for another 5 minutes. Finally, flush with cold water.
Pest Control
White vinegar makes a surprisingly effective pest controller. Even better, white vinegar is an eco-friendly way to control pests. To use white vinegar as an earth-friendly insect trap, fill a container with a cup of vinegar. Add a small piece of banana peel and a cup of water then shake vigorously. Poke holes around the top of the container and use a string to hang the container from a stake in the garden. Let the trap sit in the garden and replace it with a new one once the container is filled with insects.
Dishwasher Cleaner
The dishwasher can get really dirty as you wash your food off the plates. Grime will start building up in between crevices. You can use white vinegar to eliminate all the leftover gunk in your dishwasher. Just pour about a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the rub. Let the dishwasher run empty. Do this once every month or two to keep your dishwasher squeaky clean!
Unclog Shower Heads
Showerheads, especially old ones, get clogged over time. The clog is caused by mineral deposits from the water. You have to clean your showerheads once every six months to keep it in tiptop shape. Good thing you can use vinegar to clean showerheads. Just add ½ cup of vinegar in a bowl of boiling water. Place the showerhead directly into the bowl and let sit for at least 10 minutes. If the showerhead can’t be unscrewed from the shower, just get a plastic bag, fill it with white vinegar and take the bag over the showerhead. Let that sit for at least an hour.
Remove Rust
Restore rusted metal furnishings in your home with white vinegar. Just soak all your rusted items in a bowl of full strength white vinegar for at least 20minutes. For larger items – such as rusted patio furniture – just apply the vinegar over the rusted area and let sit for 10 minutes. With a metal brush, brush the rusted spot and rinse well with water.
Remove Unwanted Odors
Vinegar works well as a deodorizer. It helps eliminate bad odors that stick to clothing and furniture. Just spray full-strength vinegar on hard surfaces and wipe with a dry cloth after. Repeat the process several times if the place is extra stinky. You can also pour vinegar into a basin and add several orange peels to eliminate bad odors in the kitchen.
